My Approach to Treating Patients
As an experienced physician with more than 36 years of specialization in orthopedics, I take a highly personal approach to caring for my patients.
My practice specializes in general orthopedics, including spinal surgery.
I have extensive experience in treating work-related injuries and conditions. This includes a thorough examination of the patient and their work history, including the causation of the injury. My goal in taking care of these patients is to get them back to work safely and as soon as possible.
I also have experience in medical-legal issues. I provide second opinions and review of medical records.
I created this website to familiarize you with my orthopedic practice, dedicated staff and the services we provide.
Whether you’re making the decision for orthopedic care or would you just like to expand your knowledge, I hope this site helps you become informed and more confident about the incredible realm of orthopedic treatments available.
I believe in meeting a patient’s individual needs through comprehensive evaluation and treatment designed to help them achieve an active, pain-free lifestyle. Many musculoskeletal conditions can be treated by non-surgical techniques; surgery is just one treatment option and is usually reserved only for those conditions that have failed all conservative methods. We combine leading-edge techniques with proven methods to provide our patients with the best orthopedic care possible.
I work to develop a partnership with my patients. On my part, this begins with listening. One of the most important things I need to know is how the physical problem affects this patient's life. We develop a dialogue through which my patients understand the diagnostic process, their own unique problem, their treatment choices and the recovery process. Patients help to guide and direct the diagnostic and treatment activities.
I believe that knowledgeable patients make the best decisions about their own treatment. That is why I explain every step of the diagnostic process. Next, I want each patient to understand their condition, how it developed and how various treatment approaches can improve or repair the problem. Many times, I will utilize models for this education. When we consider treatment alternatives, I present a realistic outlook on the results we can achieve. I’ll also be frank about any risks that might be involved. If a non-surgical option is available, I'll explain that avenue in depth.
Our purpose is to handle each and every patient visit with care and proficiency. It is also highly important to us that the doctor/patient relationship is open and honest. It is my responsibility to make sure my patients are well-informed about their conditions and the multiple treatment options available. My professional staff and I will also provide you with patient education materials (e.g., websites and pamphlets) that give you an added appreciation of your condition and treatment options.
The best compliment I receive is when patients recommend me to one of their family members or friends. My patients' trust is of the utmost importance to me. Any injury causes you concern and anxiety, you may not know what is wrong or what needs to be done to correct your injury. My main approach to helping you heal your injury is to keep you well informed through our dialogue and through external sources of information that are available.

My Community Activities
I was born and raised in Saint Louis, Mo., and attended Saint Louis public schools.
I completed college at the University of Missouri, Saint Louis and I graduated medical school from Saint Louis University. I completed six years of post-graduate training in Orthopedic Surgery in Chicago, Kansas City and New Orleans. I then returned to Saint Louis and began my private practice in orthopedic surgery and spinal surgery in 1980.
My practice is in the same community where I live with my wife and three children. It is very important that I remain active in the community. I've known some of my patients for years before they visited my office. I believe in giving back to the community that has given so much to me. Therefore, I support and take an active role in many local programs.
